Pizza Puffs

Kenny puts together another simple homemade dish the pizza puff. So easy to make you'll want to add this pizza puff meal to your recipe list.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 roll Wewalka Classic Pizza Dough
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage I used turkey Italian
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • ½ small onion diced
  • 8 Oz Mozzarella finely cubed
  • 4 Oz Mexican cheese shredded
  • 1 ½ Tbsp oil
  • About 2 cups vegetable oil

Method
 

  1. In a pan over medium-high heat add 1 1/2 Tbsp oil.
  2. Add onions and cook until translucent.
  3. Add Italian sausage. Cook until no longer pink and broken up.
  4. Stir in marinara and let simmer until slightly reduced. Stir in cubed Mozzarella and melt slightly (salt and pepper to taste if needed).
  5. On a large cutting board lightly dust the surface with flour to avoid sticking.
  6. Roll out pizza dough. Slice into 8 pizza puff-sized rectangles.
  7. Spoon filling into each of the bottom 4 rectangles and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  8. Seal with the top rectangles. Use a fork top crimp/pinch the ends together on both sides.
  9. Bring vegetable oil to around 350 degrees. Deep fry pizza puffs for about 1-2 minutes per side (just until they become golden brown).
  10. Line in a cooling rack.
