Turkey Chopped Cheese

The chopped steak sandwich got a healthier upgrade, the turkey chopped cheese sandwich. All the flavor of chopped steak with a healthy twist, enjoy.

 

Turkey Chopped Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • Salt pepper and garlic powder to taste
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 2-3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 oz of each: Cheddar cheese and Monterrey Jack cheese shredded
  • American Cheese slices
  • Soft hoagy rolls
  • 2 Tbsp butter and oil for cooking and toasting bread

Directions

  1. In a large cast iron skillet melt 1 Tbsp butter and add 1 Tbsp oil.
  2. Once heated, add onions and peppers.
  3. Saute for a couple minutes then add minced garlic and continue to saute another minute.
  4. Add ground turkey. Bring to a medium heat.
  5. Season with salt pepper and garlic powder and let cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned a bit.
  6. Flip, season other side and add Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Break up meat with a spatula.
  8. Once almost done incorporate your onion/pepper mixture and continue to cook until no longer pink.
  9. Add cheese to the mix. Combine well.
  10. Remove from heat.
  11. In a separate skillet melt remaining butter and brown hoagy rolls.
  12. Add a layer of mayonnaise if desired.
  13. Next a layer of your Chopped Cheese mixture.
  14. Top with American cheese and broil just until cheese melts beautifully.
