No dry turkey meat over here, these smothered turkey wings are juicy and delicious. Prepared with a hearty gravy made from scratch this recipe will change your mind about creating tender turkey, enjoy.
Smothered Turkey Wings
Ingredients
- 2-3 lbs Turkey Wings (soak in water and 1-Tbsp apple cider vinegar for 15 minutes then pat dry with paper towel)
- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 Tbsp Blue Ribbon chicken seasoning or poultry seasoning
- 2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 2 tsp Adobo seasoning
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 large onion sliced and divided
- 1 green bell pepper sliced and divided
- 1 cup chicken broth
For Gravy:
- 3 Tbsp butter
- Pan drippings from baked turkey
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 cups chicken stock
- 1 tsp of each onion powder and garlic powder
- 1 tsp Creole Seasoning
- 1 tsp black pepper
Directions
- In a bowl, combine seasoning ingredients for turkey wings together well.
- Arrange turkey wings in a baking dish. Drizzle about a Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil over the wings.
- Generously season wings on both sides and be sure to rub in all over.
- Add half of the veggies on top of the wings.
- Pour 1 cup of chicken stock along the side of dish so the seasoning won’t rinse off.
- Add a thin slice of butter over each wing.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake on 375°F for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and pour off drippings into a separate container.
As for the gravy..
- In a large cast iron skillet melt butter.
- Add remaining veggies and saute for about 3-4 minutes.
- Combine Gravy seasoning and add to the mix.
- Once combined add flour.
- Now slowly add turkey drippings and stir or whisk together until golden brown and starts to thicken.
- Slowly pour chicken stock while stirring until desired texture.
- Pour Gravy over turkey wings and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes. Serve over Jasmine Rice
