Chicken Philly Cheese Steak

The Philly steak has a tasty friend, the chicken Philly cheese steak. All the cheesy goodness of a Philly cheese steak but made with chicken, enjoy.

 

Chicken Philly Cheese Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil divided
  • 1 Tbsp all purpose seasoning(salt, pepper, garlic powder)
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 green or any color bell pepper sliced
  • 1/2 cup Queso cheese
  • Shredded Mozzarella
  • Hoagie rolls

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F.
  2. In a large bowl place chicken, drizzle with 1/2 the olive oil.
  3. Season with all purpose or salt, pepper and garlic powder. Coat well on both sides.
  4. Heat remaining oil on medium heat in a large cast iron skillet (preferably).
  5. Once hot, place chicken (smooth side down) in skillet and cook 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and 165 internal temperature.
  6. Remove chicken to a plate.
  7. In the same skillet add onions and bell peppers. Saute for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Cut chicken into bite-sized chunks.
  9. Add chicken with the veggies and toss to combine.
  10. Add Queso and stir. Turn off heat.
  11. Cut open Hoagie rolls and lightly toasted if desired. Place open faced up on a baking sheet.
  12. Divide the chicken mixture onto the Hoagie rolls and top with shredded cheese.
  13. Place in preheated oven and toast for about 5 minutes. Cheese should be melted and bread still soft.
  14. Cut in half and Smash!
