Sometime the classics are the best like an old fashion patty melt. Made with ground turkey or beef, buttered rye bread, and onions it’s flavor puts it at the top of the food chain (pun intended), enjoy.
Old Fashioned Patty Melt
Ingredients
- Rye Bread
- 2 Tbsp butter divided
- 1 small onion thinly sliced
- 1 lb ground beef (feel free to substitute for ground chicken, turkey or Veggie crumbles)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Gouda cheese slices
- 1/3 cup Thousand Islands salad dressing or..
To make your own sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1 Tbsp Sweet relish or 1 tsp pickle juice
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
Combine these ingredients for an Amazing Secret Sauce
Directions
- In a large cast iron skillet melt 1 Tbsp butter and saute onions 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove, cover, and set aside.
- Form beef patties into oval shape. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In same skillet cook patties over medium high heat for 5-7 minutes per side or until no longer pink in the center.
- Remove and keep warm.
- Spread remaining butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place in skillet butter side down and toast until light brown.
Finally to the Assemble:
- Place a slice of cheese on toast slice.
- Top with beef patty and half the onion and half salad dressing or Secret Sauce.
- Top with another slice of cheese and remaining toast slice.
- Same process with other sandwiches. Serve immediately.
